Addendum

I forgot to post a photo of the pasture side of the house all sided and purdy lookin'!

I'm debating whether or not to paint the cement white or leave it as is.  Maybe I can try my hand at veneer and put some stone up?

That sounds like something I could screw up beyond belief...

In other non-house news, we've had a bobcat wandering through every week or so.  What a gorgeous animal; I have to wonder if it's the same one I photographed a few years ago.  This cat is pretty big, though.  You can just barely make it out in the center of this photo:

I'm hoping to be lucky enough to get a photo of it when it's in the open.

Drywall 'n such.

Days 67, 68, and 69...I'm not really sure what went on.  A little siding, a little clean up, and what have you.  But day 70 was all about drywall.  And yes, it DEFINITELY makes everything brighter!

All of these photos were taken at dusk, so that shows how much lighter it really is upstairs.  Downstairs I had to use a flash, unfortunately.  Not so many windows, you know.  And a lot of the photos were hard to get in small rooms.

The crew will be back to mud and tape soon, and the electric company was here to hook up power to the three outlets that have been installed in the new house.  I'm getting more and more excited about the end closing in.  Maybe I'll be in by my birthday, wouldn't that be cool?

Insulation? Check.

Day 66 was the completion of the insulation, and the heat man did some more work outside.  Right now the insulation makes the spaces look so dark, but I think once the drywall is up things will be much brighter.

Warm & Cozy

 Day 65!

The upper floor is almost completely insulated, and they've done a good deal of the downstairs.  (Side note - the insulation is made from recycled, sustainable materials.  Love it!).  The drywall guy was here taking measurements the other day, too.

Sunday was appliance shopping day.  I'm glad I spent weeks pouring over models and options online; I basically waited for a sale weekend and went into each store with a list of specific appliances clutched in my sweaty little hand.  I was able to get some decent deals.

My biggest hope right now is that the drywall is done and the flooring in at least by mid-March so I can set up my greenhouse in front of those French doors and start some seeds.  I've been checking out catalogues and created a seed starting calendar in anticipation.  The other day I received my first delivery of basic veggie seeds from Burpee.  I'm stoked for growing season!

...and even more siding...

That's all that's been happening days 60 through 64, but daaaaaang.

Yup.  Lovin' it.

and more siding...

Days 57 through 59 have been siding days, which means it's warmed up.  Well...a little.  It's over 32*F at least, but next week we'll be headed back into another cold snap, so I'm not sure how much will get finished.

The builder also explained "line of sight" to me.  Whichever direction is the one that most people would view a house side is the "line of sight".  This dictates the direction in which vinyl siding goes up and overlaps, creating a seamless look.  If you look at it from the opposite direction, you definitely see the seams.

Know what I mean, Vern?

But the back of the main addition is fully sided and I'm quite pleased.

Beam(ing)

Day 55 was more electric.  Day 56 was more plumbing, and a lot of site clean up.  It's still too cold to do siding, and there was a nor'easter coming, so the builder spent most of the day inside tidying up.

And he did this.

I'm loving it!  A little old mixed in with the new.  The shorter one will go directly across from it on the wall.  I think it's going to look pretty sharp.
